Reckoning With Your Past

“Reckoning with your Past”

1 John 1:7  The Voice  If we walk step by step in the light, where the Father is, then we are ultimately connected to each other through the sacrifice of Jesus His Son. His blood purifies us from all our sins.

Romans 6:4 The Voice  Therefore, we were buried with Him through this baptism into death so that just as God the Father, in all His glory, resurrected the Anointed One, we, too, might walk confidently out of the grave into a new life.

Acts 1:5  that just as John ritually cleansed people with water through baptism, so you will be washed with the Holy Spirit very soon.

Looking inside an empty tomb could have been an upsetting event for the Disciples, yet we have the benefit of understanding the story with the Scriptures.  What next hovered on the horizon for the Disciples after Jesus’ death?  Would they reflect upon the miracles performed by Jesus and understand the major meaning of them?

We are like the Disciples, struggle with the full meaning of Jesus’ death.  Easter services are reminders of the love God has for His Creation, the mission of His Son Jesus, and the power of His Shed Blood.  We sing “There Is Power In The Blood,” yet do we fully understand the miracle of cleansing us from all past sins and misdeeds.  I apply this same question for singing “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross,” do we dig up our past to cripple our future?  Do we really believe in Baptism that God leaves our ‘Old Man’ under the waters and rise a ‘New Man?’  The early church taught water baptism was “the bath of God.”  Why?  God desires no remnant of our past to haunt our future!

Steps to dealt with your past; 1) read and study the Scriptures daily, 2) pray without ceasing, 3) make all things right with people you have offended, and 4) express gratitude to God!

Freedom comes to those who desire to be free!  Living with a troubled spirit of your past is a decision by you to wallow in the muck of life.  Choose Freedom!  Blessings!  Pastor Stan
